Ottawa Real Estate Statistics

The Ottawa Real Estate Board reported 1,119 unit sales in September, an increase of 12.5% compared with September 2012. The five year average for the number of sales in the month of September is 1,121 units. The number of new listings taken in the month increased by 3% compared with September 2012.  Though unit sales increased the average sale price,  at $346,342, was again down from the previous month and also decreased by 1.2% from September 2012.  The listing inventory is 8% above September 2012 but is moderating.  The sales to listing inventory ratio was at 16% which indicates a balanced

Bank of Canada stands pat on key interest rate

The Bank of Canada made no change in its key policy interest rate this morning as expected, leaving it at the one per cent level it has been at for the past three years. The central bank said low interest rates will remain “appropriate” as long as inflation and growth in Canada remain subdued. The bank noted that the global economy continues to expand, but its “dynamic has moderated,” saying that recent data suggested “slightly less momentum overall” in the U.S. than anticipated. Ontario moves to license condo managers

Things appear to be starting to turn around. Following a year-long review by government and industry officials and condo owner representatives, Queen’s Park recently proposed improving Ontario’s 15-year-old Condominium Act in order to offer condo owners, tenants and buyers greater protection.
