Summer Maintenance Tips

– Test all smoke and carbon monoxide alarms/detectors

– Clean range hood filters

– Check and reset all ground fault circuit interrupters (GFI)

– Wash the exterior of your house using ordinary garden hose pressure and a mild detergent

– Have a certified chimney sweep inspect and clean chimneys

– Caulk exterior joints around all windows and doors, and check all paint

– Clean lint from the entire clothes dryer vent system

– Check the operation and condition of attic fans and roof-mounted turbine vents

– Change air conditioner filter

– Refill floor drain in the basement

– Clean any lingering fall leaves from gutters

– Air out damp basements on dry, sunny days and if necessary, use a dehumidifier to keep the humidity in the basement at or below approximately 60%

– Check windows, door hinges and automatic openers for smooth operation, and lubricate as required
